I had visions while i was in dental school of how life would be. Grand, glorious and almost trouble free. I mean, it had to be, right? I wasn't going to be on Medicaid or foodstamps anymore - and that alone is like being virtually trouble free. We were gonna have an income so no more accuring of mad student debt. And, i could actually own a house of my very own. What girl doesn't dream of that?
Reality Check: Life after dental school is STRESSFUL - which equals: i'd much rather be in dental school accuring more debt and dealing with Medicaid. This way i at least know what i'm up against.
Right now we have no where to live b/c we chose the road less traveled and decided to buy a house. Yikes! Good idea? No idea - i'll let you know in a few weeks.
we have no insurance. It's a pain to cancel Medicaid. And forgetaboutit if you have a preexisting condition (carter). you need a COC from Medicaid that is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to collect. AHHHHHHH!
Taking out a Graduate school loan was a good idea (never thought i'd say debt was good) because we at least have money until his License comes in. Did i mention that's not for another 4-6 weeks? Yeah. That means no paycheck, no paycheck means no income and no house. Oh yeah, and no insurance because you need to have a license to qualify for group coverage through the company or the CDA. AHH!H Why must everything be so closly connected.
::Deep, deep sigh:: So currently we are in a state of impossible LIMBO. Dante really knew how to describe it too.

Let me tell you you have a long long seemingly endless road ahead of you...once you get a job and a house, you still have tons of insurances and licences to pay for, and you have to buy stuff for your house... you may think oh we don't need much, but believe me things will come up. Plus you can count on almost $20,000 dollars a year of your income to go to paying off those loans. Not to mention now paying for all of your food and medical expenses, you will be missing the DCF very soon. Oh yeah and do you remember how you haven't been paying much tithing for the last four years, well get ready to start shoveling it out. Not that I am not grateful to do that, but when you go to your tithing settlement in December and have only been working for 5 months and you have paid several thousands of dollars your jaw just might drop. I swear sometimes I just think, "why didn't Allan just decide to get a job with his chemistry degree and instead of being a half million dollars in debt we could be living just fine on 60 or 70 thousand dollars a year." I know there must be a light at the end of the tunnel, but one year out we are still living pay check to pay check and I can't see that light...this is something they should prepare you for because no matter what everyone says when you are in dental school there is this mythical land that we all think we are going to the day after graduation. If you find it let me know.
Hang in there! It will get better! You'll get use to how the "system" works outside of school! You'll find it much better!
